Trulioo: Year in Review
From data breaches and an epidemic scare to an ice-cold bucket challenge and the great polar vortex of 2014, the past 12 months include some memorable moments in history.
As we say goodbye to 2014 and prepare to welcome 2015, let’s take a look back at the events and news that shaped the year for Trulioo:
During the first quarter, we surpassed 100 million social verifications. “Having access to over 100 million verified cyber identities opens up a new world for business looking to verify their users online” says Stephen Ufford, CEO & Founder of Trulioo. “We are excited to have reached this milestone which validates this new and disruptive technology.”
In March, Trulioo raised $6 million in Series A financing round, bringing our total fund to over $8.3 million. The round was led by New York-based Tenfore Holdings with participation by Canada’s largest investor, BDC Venture Capital, and existing seed round investor Blumberg Capital. Consequently, Dan Levine of Tenfore Holdings has joined Trulioo’s Board of Directors.
“The growing popularity of social login is unfortunately also attracting the fraudsters,” says David Blumberg, Managing Partner at Blumberg Capital. “Trulioo’s software is a unique and effective tool to help make social login safer for users and more valuable for customers. We think the company is well positioned to build out the biggest business in the vertical, as it continues to lead the market.”
In May, Trulioo announced that it was chosen as one of NextBC’s Top 25 Most Innovative BC Tech Companies that will shape our future. NextBC showcases the most innovative, game-changing technology produced by BC companies shaping our future and changing the way we do business. Bringing together industry peers, leaders, media and supporters, this event honours the visionaries that are leading BC’s tech community into the future.
Also, Trulioo was chosen by as one of the top four companies competing for the title of the BC Technology Industry Association’s (BCTIA) “Most Promising Start-Up” for its 2014 Technology Impact Awards (TIA). Exemplifying the awards theme of ‘BC’s Mark on the World’, the 2014 finalists embolden British Columbia’s reputation for global excellence across a wide range of technologies including enterprise software, hardware, health care and clean-tech.
Trulioo was chosen as one of 100 finalists for the TiE50 Awards out of over 2800 competitors. TiE50 is TiE Silicon Valley’s premier annual awards program keenly contested by thousands of technology start-ups worldwide. TiE is a global, not-for-profit network of entrepreneurs and professionals dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship.
On August 26th, Trulioo announced that it received a strategic investment by UST Global, the leading provider of end-to-end IT services and solutions for Global 1000 companies. “The Internet economy needs large scale tools to help build trust and UST will help provide scalability, enabling us to drive innovation to our customers,” said Stephen Ufford. Including this investment, Trulioo has raised over $10 million in funding.
Trulioo moves to new office
Positioned for continued growth, Trulioo moved to a 5,000-square-foot office in downtown, Vancouver on September 1st.
“As our company continues to grow in all areas, including teams, customers, partners, and revenue, this new space will support our efforts and help cultivate a culture that produces high quality work that reflects our brand ,” said Stephen Ufford, CEO & Founder of Trulioo.
The office is located on the 3rd floor of a heritage building located at 420 West Hastings.
Trulioo traveled to Las Vegas to participate in Money20/20, where Stephen Ufford participated in a panel discussion on “Innovations in Online Payments: Managing Online Risk & Fraud” on November 4th. Stephen and his fellow panellists discussed best practices and new technologies to help with challenges associated with online risk and fraud.
In November, Trulioo attended the 5th annual Privacy Identity Innovation conference (pii2014) in Silicon Valley, where Stephen Ufford shared his perspectives on personal data and identity in the emerging markets. The pii2014 program focused on the latest developments in areas like mobile, biometrics, the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data with over 75 speakers. Trulioo is honoured to receive Deloitte’s coveted 2014 Companies-to-Watch Award in recognition of its innovative technology, management expertise, and early stage growth. The Companies-to-Watch Award honors early-stage Canadian technology companies in business for less than five years. The winners are selected based on the potential they show for future growth.
To wrap up 2014, we announced the launch of our new branding, new website, and new products. We’ve updated our logo with a crisp look and feel, and our website now provides improved navigation, usability, and access to richer content and resources. We also launched GlobalGateway, the leading global electronic identity verification provider, along with our Data Exchange platform.
