BC Tech’s ‘Aspire to Tech’ Video Features Trulioo
Ever wondered what it’s like to work in tech? Maybe you’re a social media wizard, or you’re an expert at digital marketing but you’re uncertain how to get your foot in the door. Well, you’re in luck. The BC Tech Association reports that there will be over 40,000 new tech jobs in British Columbia that will need to be filled in the next five years. Here at Trulioo, we’re already riding that wave. This year alone, our team has doubled and we’re looking to double again by the end of next year.
As a result of this province-wide explosion of tech jobs, BC Tech has produced the “Aspire to Tech” campaign, which includes videos that showcase what it’s like to work at a tech company.
Recently, Aspire to Tech featured Vancouver-based technology companies, Trulioo, Thinkific and A Thinking Ape.
The three-minute long video was shot by Kyle Hay and Jeremy Jude Lee with motion graphics by Cary Debenham and music from David Cutter. The video features Marika Hirsch, copywriter at Thinkific, Taline Ainein, A Thinking Ape’s talent specialist, and Trulioo’s very own social media manager, Bond Lai, and has already racked up thousands of views.
“It was an honor to be featured in BC Tech’s Aspire to Tech series,” said Lai. “A lot of people think that to work in tech, you’ve got to be a techie, like an engineer or developer – but that’s really not the case. I’m glad I was able to share my story to help encourage people into this awesome space.”
Growing up in the 90s, the internet and technology always felt like second-nature to Lai, who was – and still is – the go-to person in his family whenever anything technical needs fixing.
“Funnily enough, what I think shaped me into the trouble-shooter I am today was the fear of getting in trouble with my older sister if I ever broke the computer or contaminated it with a virus,” he said.
Lai said that his biggest motivator comes from the people he works with.
“When you’ve got a rock star team who are supportive, know what they’re doing and are passionate about making an impact in the world – it’s contagious.”
When asked why he chose tech, Lai said he wanted to work in an environment where he could really make an impact.
“It’s an exciting time to be part of tech – when you work in the industry, you’re surrounded by the newest products, processes and innovations. You’re at the forefront of what your generation – or the next – will be living and breathing. That’s exciting!“
